Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president confirmed this information for us at the LA Auto Show. They did not give a time frame for release or acknowledge that the first ones would be deployed in 2016. But they are promising that it will meet the 200 mile range mark it set out to achieve and support DC fast charging. This will be a true game changer for the world of electric cars.
CES has rapidly morphed into a car show over the last decade, focusing on next-gen driving technologies — connected car tech and autonomous driving, to name a couple — and automotive executives have frequently taken the stage there. GM CEO Mary Barra has been tapped to keynote in 2016, so it makes sense that she'd want something big to unveil — and there's nothing bigger for GM right now than the Bolt, which promises better than 200 miles of electric range.
“The Bolt is a very important piece” of meeting California’s emissions mandates, GM product chief Mark Reuss said from the LA show. California regulations require 15.4 percent of manufacturer’s vehicles sold in the state be zero-emission vehicles by 2025. “It’s company-wide, so (the mandate) will be easier for us to meet as a full-line automaker with cars like the Chevy Volt, Spark EV, and Bolt,” Reuss said.
