Chevrolet introduced the 2015 Colorado pickup truck at the L.A. Show

Chevrolet has staked a claim in the small to midsized truck market with debut of the 2015 Chevy Colorado.  The midsized truck has a new face and a redesigned cabin that resembles the full-sized Silverado as a bigger, stronger pickup.  However, the 2015 Colorado weighs 900 pounds less and is 16 inches shorter than the Silverado.

“The all-new Colorado benefits from the solid foundation established by the Silverado, and it reinvents the mid-size truck while reinvigorating the segment at the same time,” said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors North America.

The Colorado will be available in either an extended cab body style and six foot bed or a crew cab with a five or six foot bed. Two and four wheel drive models will be offered across three trim levels.

Chevrolet hopes to compete with Subaru and the Toyota Tacoma in the mid-sized market with the reinvented 2015 Colorado. It is designed to attract the outdoorsy buyers with added features that include bike racks and a tiered bed design that allows for multi-level loading and concealment of cargo.

During the First year, 193 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 302 hp 3.6-liter six-cylinder engines will be available; both with six-speed automatic transmissions, but in the second year, a class-exclusive diesel option will be added. The fuel economy has not been announced but it is expected to have a maximum tow rating of 6,700 pounds.
